But, did you know that it also offers a wide variety of advantages for your smile, too? By sunbathing (while making sure to protect your skin and lips, of course), you can benefit your <em>whole<\/em> body! Read on to learn how catching rays is a healthy and fun way to make the most out of this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summer Sunshine, Your Smile, &amp; Vitamin D<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The sun is responsible for helping summer squash grow,\nkeeping you warm, providing a renewable energy source, and even giving you the\nmental boost you need all year-round. In the same way that summer rays support\nall of these natural endeavors, they\u2019re also essential for our bodies and\nimproving your oral health:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Calcium helps your bones and teeth grow strong,\nbut without vitamin D, your body wouldn\u2019t be able to get the most out of it.\nVitamin D helps your body process and absorb calcium so you can enjoy all of\nthe benefits it has to offer.<\/li><li>Several studies have shown that vitamin D can\nalso prevent tooth decay due to the reasons listed above. Some have shown that\nit can lower the risk of cavities by up to 50 percent. <\/li><li>Vitamin D is also important for your immune\nsystem to help it fight off infections and bad bacteria, like those that cause\ngum disease! <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While the best way to absorb vitamin D is spending between five\nand 30 minutes in the sun each day, you can also take vitamins orally. Be\nmindful of knowing your limits, and always stay hydrated and protected while\nyou\u2019re outside during the summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seasonal, Light Foods to Improve Oral Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to maximize your body\u2019s intake of vitamin D\n(especially during those rainy days where the sun isn\u2019t out), is through your\ndiet. Here are some foods that are great sources of vitamin D:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Salmon, tuna, and other fatty fish<\/li><li>Eggs<\/li><li>Milk<\/li><li>Cereal, orange juice, and yogurt<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can make the most out of the summer <em>and<\/em> benefit\nyour overall and oral health by soaking up the sun. Whether it\u2019s at a beach, on\na bike ride across town, or taking your dog on a walk, getting outside is great\nfor your body and mind.
